    Events

    The Third Annual Trinity Debate was held on Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at 7:00 p.m. in Kantzer Hall 141 on the question, "Is Christian theism incompatible with God's hiddenness?" Theodore Drange argued for the Yes answer and Paul Moser argued for the No answer. See Trinity Debates for more information.

     

    David Fields, Christopher McMammon (2003), Mike Nowak, and Prof. Chris. Firestone traveled to the American Academy of Religion meetings in San Antonio, Texas, November 18-23, 2004.

     

    Ann Eberhardt, Christopher McCammon (2003), and Philip Antin (TEDS) went to the American Philosophical Association meetings in Chicago on April 24, 2004.

     

    A crew of students traveled to Toronto on November 22, 2002, to be at the American Academy of Religion meeting there. Traveling were Ann Eberhardt, Candace Joy Dow, Nathan Castillo, Shane Ellison, Chris Modrzejewski, Christopher McCammon, Andrew Waggoner, Jeremy Allen, and Russ Billings with Professor Chris Firestone.

    People

    Prof. Chris Firestone officially received his PhD from the University of Edinburgh in November, 2005.

     

    Prof. Chris Firestone is the coeditor of Kant and the New Philosophy of Religion published by Indiana University Press in January, 2006.

     

    Christopher McCammon (2003) and Nathan Jacobs (2001) have articles in the anthology. He recently finished his eighth year of teaching at Trinity College.

     

    Prof. Cliff Williams is the editor of Personal Virtues: Introductory Essays, which was published by Palgrave Macmillan in September, 2005. He recently finished his twenty-sixth year of teaching at Trinity College, and his fortieth year of college teaching.

     

    Nathan Castillo, Ann Eberhardt, and Christopher McCammon read papers at the Evangelical Theological Society meetings in St. Paul, Minnesota, on March 14-15, 2003. Nathan's paper was "Jean-Luc Marion: The French Tillich?" Ann's paper was "God and Time: Wolterstorff at the Helm." Christopher's paper was "Kant on Christ."

     

    Nathan Castillo read a paper, "The Religious Impulse of Grace in Faulkner's Vision of Despair," at the Upper Midwest meetings of the American Academy of Religion in St. Paul, Minnesota, on April 25-26, 2003.

     

    Prof. Cliff Williams's book, The Life of the Mind: A Christian Perspective, was published in 2002. It is now in its third printing. It is the featured book of the semester for fall 2006, at the honors college at Indiana Wesleyan University.

    Awards

    Anna Blomquist (2006) received the Lincoln Laureate award this year from Trinity College. One senior from each college and university in Illinois receives the award each year. The winner is presented with the award at a ceremony in the Old State Capitol Building in Springfield, Illinois, in October—in the very room in which Abraham Lincoln gave his "House Divided" speech. Prof. Cliff Williams was present at the ceremony and was part of the official group which presented the award to Anna. See Photos.

     

    Ann Eberhardt won the 2004 Outstanding Philosophy Student Award. She had A's in all of her philosophy courses, presented a paper at a national conference, participated in two highly competitive national programs, one at the University of Notre Dame and one at Oxford University, and is a graduate of the honors program at Trinity. Prof. Cliff Williams and Prof. Chris Firestone presented the award to Ann at the annual Awards Convocation in April, 2004.

     

    Nathan Jacobs won the 2001 Outstanding Philosophy Student Award. He presented papers in two national conferences.

    Purdue University at Calumet is hosting the 13th Annual Undergraduate Conference April 29-30, 2005. Abstracts of potential papers to be read at the conference should be sent to Prof. Clement Stacy, Department of English and Philosophy, Purdue University Calumet, 2200 169th Street, Hammond, IN 46323-2094 by January 31, 2005.
