    Angelo G. Rentas, MS

    Angelo G. Rentas is associate professor of biology, chair of the Biology Department, and director of the School of Science and Technology at Trinity International University's Trinity College.

     

    Before coming to Trinity in 1985, he held other positions including supervisor of Gonozyme Manufacturing Support at Abbott Laboratories, research associate supervisor/lab manager at Hyland Diagnostics Laboratory, and clinical microbiology lab supervisor at Medical Center Labs, Kankakee Illinois.

     

    Prof. Rentas reinstated the biology and chemistry majors at Trinity in 1985. These majors grew tremendously under his leadership. He also directs undergraduate research in two areas: the purification of isocitrate lyase and the investigation of degradative abilities of Rhodococcus sp.

     

    Prof. Rentas earned the Master of Science in microbiology from Northern Illinois University and the Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in chemistry from Northern Illinois University.

     

    Prof. Rentas's areas of expertise include microbiology, protein purification, microbial physiology, pathogenesis of bacterial disease, and the creation/evolution debate. Recently, he has become increasingly involved in the debate surrounding various bioethical issues. Prof. Rentas coauthored the biology lab manual, Biological Observations. He also has written several scientific articles, with one being published in the scientific journal Cytobios.

     

    Prof. Rentas lives with his wife, Kathleen, and four children in Burlington, Wisconsin. In his spare time he enjoys woodworking, volleyball, and basketball.
