Music Theater
The SOM produces music theater once each year, alternating semesters with the English department's productions of straight plays. Auditions are open to all students, regardless of major. Participation in the cast and/or ensemble/chorus is voluntary, although music majors with an applied concentration in voice and student singers receiving scholarship money are expected to audition, and should willing to perform if cast.
Orchestra members are expected to play as needed, as part of their ensemble commitment. Technical theater help (i.e., lighting, sound, stage management, property management, set design and construction, costuming, and make up) is recruited form the student body at large. Productions alternate between three genres: opera, operetta, and music theater. We have recently produced Lerner and Loewe's Camelot, Gianni Schichi, You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, Jane Eyre, Amahl and the Night Visitors, Bells Are Ringing, The Mikado, Guys and Dolls, and Fiddler On the Roof at the College. Dr. Paul Satre usually serves as conductor and music director, and Dr. Don Hedges oversees stage direction and production.
