Trinity College

What's Involved in Hosting an Ensemble

    Brief Description

The Concert Choir and Symphonic Band tour each spring and are also available to local churches on weekends throughout the school year. The concerts consist of both sacred and secular repertoire, student testimonies, and a brief presentation about the university. They can also assist in Sunday morning worship services. The Handbell Choir is available for evening services and workshops.

    The Specifics

The details for each specific concert will vary, but here is generally how it works:

    • We provide posters and flyers to advertise.
    • Dinner is needed the evening of the concert.
    • 2 medium-sized rooms are needed for changing rooms
    • A piano or keyboard should be available for use
    • Each tour concert costs the university $500-800. We ask that each church contribute towards these costs through an honorarium, a free-will offering at the concert, or both.
    • In the rear of the church we can display information about the university and have CDs available for purchase.
    • If our visit to your church is during a long tour, it is necessary to provide housing.

    Housing

Students are typically divided into groups of 2 or more and hosted by families from the church. The job of the host family is:

    • Transport the students from church to their home, and return them to church in the morning
    • Provide for them a place to sleep
    • Provide breakfast in the morning
    • Provide a sack lunch for the students

    Concert Choir

The Concert Choir, under the direction of Dr. Paul Satre, has been the premier choral organization of the College music program since its inception. Its repertoire ranges from chant and the polychoral masterpieces of the sixteenth century to the Russian choral school, to late twentieth-century Scandinavian pieces, spirituals, and contemporary gospel settings. For more information about the choir, visit the Concert Choir page.

    Symphonic Band

Trinity College has a 41-year history of band music. What began as a pep band for sporting events grew to a full concert organization in 1970. They started touring nationally in 1976 and internationally in 1990, playing a variety of music from classical works to patriotic anthems and arrangements of hymns. For more information about the band, visit the Symphonic Band page.

    Handbell Choir

The Handbell Choir, under the direction of Ms. Debbie Gillette, makes excellent use of the College's five-octave set of bells. Though primarily a resident ensemble, the Handbell Choir also concertizes in local churches, where it is invariably well received.
