About the Concert Choir
The Concert Choir has been the premier choral organization of the College music program since its inception. It is a coed group which typically stands in mixed formation (i.e., not grouped in sections). Its repertoire ranges from chant and the polychoral masterpieces of the sixteenth century to the Russian choral school, to late twentieth-century Scandinavian pieces, spirituals, and contemporary gospel settings. College alumnus and full-time faculty member Dr. Paul Satre conducts the Concert Choir. The group has over 50 members and welcomes music and non-music majors to be involved.
Our Conductor, Dr. Paul Satre
Dr. Paul Satre joined the music faculty of his alma mater in 1996. After completing his undergraduate degree at Trinity, Dr. Satre went on to earn graduate degrees from the American Conservatory of Music with additional graduate work at the University of Minnesota. He has conducted and toured with collegiate choirs in the United States and Europe and has taught theory, piano, composition, church music, and jazz. For several years he taught courses at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in the area of church music and hymnology, and he is an editorial consultant for Creator, a magazine for church musicians. Dr. Satre is an active performer on the piano and organ, as well as the principal organist at Moody Church in Chicago.
Recordings
The Concert Choir has released three CD recordings, most recently in Spring 2003. They are each entitled Soli Deo Gloria, To the Glory of God Alone, the signature of Johann Sebastian Bach which the choir has embraced as its motto. These recordings feature works by composers such as F. Melius Christiansen, Samuel Barber, John Rutter, Paul Tschesnokoff, and Sergei Rachmaninoff. Each CD includes performances by the Men's Ensemble as well as a piece arranged by Dr. Paul Satre, conductor of the Concert Choir.
