Registering for Courses

Welcome to Trinity from University Records

The University Records staff (we call our work group Team Records) consider it a privilege to serve every student who attends TIU. Please visit our Records homepage anytime at www.tiu.edu/tiu/records/. Our vision statement and services are listed on our homepage along with many helpful information links.

Our Services to You

We maintain student academic records, conduct registration, process adds/drops, generate enrollment certification, process and print transcripts, and maintain student demographic information, including permanent and local addresses, majors, degree programs, class standing, and related academic information.

What Is Course Registration?

Course Registration is an opportunity to let us know which courses interest you and to be placed in the most appropriate courses even before you arrive on campus. The process includes

  • Filling out the enclosed forms and returning them to TIU before the specified deadline.
  • Receiving individual attention from our Associate Academic Dean, who will match your interests and previous experiences to courses at Trinity.
  • Receiving a printout of the courses recommended for your first semester.

Trinity International University is pleased to offer you this service, believing that it will ease your transition into college life. You can be confident in your first semester that the courses you take were recommended specifically for you.

What Does Course Registration Do for Me?

There are several benefits to registering for courses:

  • You will know both your courses and professors’ names before school begins.
  • You will know your estimated tuition and fee charges before school begins and can begin making payments early.
  • You will start your college career with solid academic guidance, based on your interest area and prior experience. This will allow you to stay on track and complete your degree in a timely manner.

Am I Required to Take the Courses Chosen for Me?

Generally, yes. However, in some cases, adjustments can be made. We will honor your requests in your original registration documents whenever possible but will make changes after receiving approval from the Academic Dean. His approval will guarantee that you are not choosing a course that would be inappropriate for your particular program or academic background. The only course required for incoming students is IDS 101 (Trinity Experience). All students must complete this requirement during their first year at Trinity, unless notified that TIU is accepting 30 transferable semester hours or more from another college or university.

Who Should I Contact with Questions?

For questions regarding the courses recommended for you, contact Dr. Steven Pointer, the Academic Dean. Dr. Pointer will be receiving all documentation from incoming students and considering their academic background and interests in order to select appropriate courses for their programs. He will also aid in making changes to recommended courses, if desired. The Academic Dean’s phone number is 847.317.7180, and his email address is spointer@tiu.edu.

For questions about policies and procedures for admission to Trinity, contact your Admissions Counselor. He/she will facilitate all needs of incoming students as they pursue admission to TIU for this coming fall.

If you have transfer credits to be evaluated, your counselor will process those through the Records Office for you. The phone number for TIU Undergraduate Admissions is 800.822.3225 and the email address is tcadmissions@tiu.edu. This evaluation is based on Trinity's transfer policies and official transcripts that Trinity has received from other institutions. The Senior Admissions Counselor is responsible for evaluation of a student's transfer credits and for identifying the appropriate Trinity course equivalencies. The preliminary transfer course report/degree audit information will be provided to incoming students by the Senior Admissions Counselor, and the Records Office will verify/process the evaluation for transfer course posting to the Trinity transcript. Please contact the Senior Admissions Counselor with questions regarding this evaluation at 847.317.8154 or by email at jarneson@tiu.edu. The Records Office also may be contacted for academic policy clarification at either 847.317.7050 or email to tcrecords@tiu.edu.

Can I make a last-minute adjustment to my course registration, if needed?

Yes, at the start of the fall semester on Wednesday, August 27. Students may choose to make course registration changes during the two-week Add/Drop Period, which starts Wednesday, August 27, and ends at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10. Note that during the second week of this Add/Drop Period (September 3-10), a $5.00 Add/Drop fee is assessed for course registration changes.

Students must process any Adds/Drops online via TIUAccess on MyTrinity. You will receive your TIUAccess information at orientation in August. The Records Office is located in the lower-level Petersen Wing next to the McLennan Academic Building. For questions regarding course registration or Add/Drop processing,
the Records Office may be contacted at 847.317.7050 or email us at tcrecords@tiu.edu.
